Tips for Beginning Artists
First of all, don’t listen to those inner voices that say you can’t draw anything but stick figures. If the urge to create is there, then do it. No need to spend a bunch of money on expensive brushes or paints. Just sign up for a beginning course at your local community college…they’ll tell you exactly what to buy. Or just get three brushes (big, little and small) and five tubes of color, blue, yellow, red, black and white.
I do recommend that you get a sketchbook and 4b pencil (and an eraser!) and spend a relaxing few minutes each day drawing what you see. Sign up for a beginning drawing class on-line or borrow a book from your local library but begin drawing every day. Art is a visual language and you must begin to train your eye to see the shapes and values in the world around you. Like any language, if you don’t use it you lose it…so practice…practice…practice.
